Designer Flip Flops Taking Lessons From the Past

Designer Flip Flops: Taking Lessons From the Past

The origin of the flip flop has nothing to do with the embellished flip flops and designer flip flops that you see today on the feet of both the famous and the lay folks alike. It actually lies deep within history, although of course, they are referred to merely as sandals in such references. Imagery resembling the flip flops can be found as far back as ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. From the art of ancient Egypt onwards, this thong style sandal was to dominate much of the footwear market. Simply made, with an attachment point only at front so that it lies between the big toe and the second, this shoe is versatile and accessible to all.

Many would agree that the popularity of the flip flop really began in many eastern cultures, in countries such as China and New Zealand. Today, this is where much of our historical information comes from on the history of this long-lasting style of shoe. While times have changed and the market has as well, flip flops are not the only shoes available to most people anymore, although there are certainly still developing countries where a close-toed pair of shoes are a sign of upward mobility. Thongs, from the sexy flip-flops on American celebrities to the Japanese and Korean flip flops that are provided for use in toilets, they are still quite the popular item.

One use of flip flops that one might not expect is in the military. Their use is being encouraged by both the European and North American military forces as both footwear for communal showers to slow the spread of fungal infections and promote a more sanitary environment, as well as for a lightweight footwear replacement for emergency situations in which military boots are damaged beyond repair. Many hikers have also picked up this trend, carrying a pair of flip flops- sometimes sewn to a pair of socks- as emergency back-ups.

In India, the common sandal most similar to the flip flop is the chappal. These shoes have a dual use, both as footwear and an indicator of one’s anger and aggression. It is quite common for one to use their footwear as a threat by whipping them off and brandishing them at one’s opponent during a heated debate. Don’t think it stops there, though, more than one chappal has been used as a missile or used to hit someone. Now, this is certainly not the prescribed use of one of those designer flip flops you’re staring at in the department store window, but it’s nice to know there’s a precedent to using those jewelry embellished flip flops to demonstrate your point in the heat of the moment.

It s Trendy But Is The Corioliss Flat Iron Any Good

Posted on July 5th, 2008 in Fashion by quickmoney-online-services

It’s Trendy, But Is The Corioliss Flat Iron Any Good?

Corioliss are getting a reputation for making flat irons that are ‘must have’ fashion accessories, so good do they look. But getting beautiful, shiny hair using a hair straightener isn’t about how it looks; it’s about how it performs. So how does a Corioliss flat iron ’shape up’?

The basic Corioliss model is its 1″ ceramic model. It’s now been out a while and remains a popular item. Its good points are that it heats up in less than 6 seconds - most models on the market take around 25. It also has variable temperature control and it has solid ceramic plates. It weighs 0.72 lbs which makes it light and easy to use.

Its bad points are that it is a little pricey; retailing for around $85 - you can buy a comparable CHI flat iron for ten dollars less. I’ve also heard a lot of complaints about the cord coming loose where it attaches to the appliance.

Despite these criticisms, the 1″ ceramic is still a good buy and is worth considering.

I’m not sure the same can be said about the Corioliss Pro Silver 1″ flat iron. It also features 1″ plates, heats up in 6 seconds and has variable temperature control between 140F to 430F. The 100% ceramic plates have been coated with tourmaline crystals that emit 6 times more negative ions that ceramic alone. The company claims it has high power ionic performance that helps lock in moisture and damages hair less.

It’s a good styling tool but the price tag of $165 is way too high. The CHI Nano Ceramic Digital 1″ is a much more technically advanced tool but retails for only $140. This CHI flat iron features Nano Silver Technology that kills 99% of bacteria so leaving hair cleaner and shinier. It also lets you set the temperature to precisely what you want.

If you really have this money to spend buy the CHI instead.

The Corioliss Tourmaline Ceramic Wet to Dry flat iron is far better value. It retails for $160 so it isn’t cheap but you do get tourmaline on 1.75″, 100% ceramic plates and Nano Silver Technology. It can also be used on dry hair.

However, there is one serious problem with this straightener and that is there is no variable heat control; it heats up to 430F and that’s it, you can’t set it to a lower temperature. While 430F may be okay on damp hair, it’s way too hot to be used on dry hair for most hair types.

Consider instead the T3 Tourmaline Wet to Dry flat iron; a better tool by far, in my opinion.

Finally, we have the latest offering; the Linea-Pro Corioliss C2 flat iron. It uses Nano Silver Technology. It’s also made out of titanium which makes it light and strong. But apart from using ground-breaking Nano Silver ‘bug killing’ Technology, these irons come in very attractive colors. They include gold, silver, black, Zebra and Red Leopard (my favorite). There’s also a limited edition C2 ‘Black Skull’. And, there’s a funky little remote control that can be clipped onto a belt. You set the temperature settings with it.

The C2 is definitely a show-stopper and will appeal to those who want the best of both technology and style. The only problem is you’ll have to pay around $180 dollars for the privilege.

Whether or not a Corioliss flat iron is worth buying depends on the type of tool you want. For the Wet to Flat and Pro Silver, you would do better to look at a T3 or CHI flat iron, but the original ceramic model is still a really good buy and if you want the next ‘must have’ tool, the C2 won’t disappoint.

A Designer Prom Dress Is As Unique As You Are

A Designer Prom Dress Is As Unique As You Are

Prom Night is a milestone in our lives, especially in a young woman’s life. So, every girl wants it to be special, a night that she’ll remember for the rest of her life. But, every girl wants to stand out; to be the ‘queen of the ball’. A designer prom dress will help you stand out from the crowd and there’ll be a design that will perfectly match your figure and personality.

The problem with a department stored bought prom gown is that these garments are mass produced for the masses. The designers have taken a ‘one style suits all’ approach. This may be fine for most girls but many will want a dress that is as unique as they are, and a mass produced frock simply isn’t good enough. Many young women spend a great deal of time looking for clothes that suit not only their figure, but their personality, so why shouldn’t it be the same for a prom dress?

If you won’t something that’s original, different and is perfect for you, then you really should start looking at designer prom dresses. These garments have been designed by the world’s leading fashion designers using the best fabrics, cutters and stylists. Unlike a department store that views prom gowns as just a seasonal piece of merchandise that comprises only a small part of their business, boutique prom fashion houses live, eat and breathe Prom Night; for them it’s an all year round business. They put enormous effort into their new collections of prom dresses; not just to make money, not just for their own prestige, but because their business relies on the young women who purchase their designs, and they are all too keenly aware that each women wants something that is unique and beautifully made.

Each fashion designer has a penchant for certain styles of prom dresses. This is a good thing as they concentrate on making that style of dress more beautiful and different to other designers. If you know what style of gown you want, go and find the designer that specializes in that same style. A department store can also offer a large range of styles, but they won’t have the ‘depth’. If you like contemporary, short prom dresses, they may have them, but they will be in limited numbers, whereas a boutique that specializes in that style will carry a large collection. This gives you much more choice and you’ll have a much better chance of finding the dress that is just perfect.

If you don’t know where to start looking, here are some designers to get you started.

The Jessica McClintock prom dress has been a popular choice for decades. Jessica’s designs have one main inspiration behind their design: romance. She has a large selection of styles, from traditional, modern, short, sexy and contemporary, but each is underlined with elegance and romance.

Tiffany prom dresses are for those who love the more traditional designs though each has a touch of styling that keeps them up-to-date. The philosophy of this design house is that a girl should not only look exquisite on Prom Night, but that in twenty years time, when she looks at photographs of her self, she won’t cringe because her gown looks out-dated, but will only think at how beautiful she looked that night.

But if you’re a thoroughly modern, confident girl looking for a dress that reflects your personality, then take a look at an Xcite prom dress. Their outfits have caused quite a stir as they show off a lot more than traditional designs and would look just at home being worn to a cocktail party or a Hollywood party.

These are just three to get you started. Others you should take a look at include Jovani, Flirt, Mori Lee and Joli.

If you really want a gown that is as unique as you are, then go for a designer label. The secret to getting the best designer prom dress is to first know the style you want to wear. Then you can narrow your search on fashion designers that make those styles.

Sandal Etiquette For the Workplace

Posted on July 5th, 2008 in Fashion by quickmoney-online-services

Sandal Etiquette For the Workplace

As casual wear becomes the norm at most offices, sandals have begun to be accepted at corporate offices nationwide. However, there are still a few precautions you should take when wearing these comfortable shoes at work. Follow these handy tips to ensure that you are “doing the right thing” when it comes to toe exposure at the office. These tips apply to both women and men.

1. Dress it Up

The sandal that you wear at the office should not be the sandal that you wear on the weekend. They should be dressier sandals that you reserve for office wear only, and be made out of leather or suede rather than any synthetics or any fabrics. Leather & suede make the sandal look more upscale. Avoid flip flops and plastics at all costs, regardless of how casual you think the office is. It is never that casual.

2. Limit Overflows

Your feet should never overhang any portion of the sandal. This applies to the little toe if the sandal is too narrow, or the heel if it isn’t long enough. Likewise to feet bulging through straps; it is best to avoid a strappy sandal at the workplace altogether to keep from committing this faux pas. This is not only for appearance, but for your safety as well.

3. Ban The Yellow

You shouldn’t have any spots on your feet that are callused or yellow. The backs of your heels are especially visible in most sandals and should be taken care of. Sand down any yellowed portions with a pumice stone or similar implement.

4. Keep It Trimmed

Your toenails should be trimmed and kept clean. Sandals allow more of an accumulation of dirt on the nail, so you should wash and moisturize your feet every night to guard against infections and keep your feet and toenails in good shape.

5. The Pedi is a Necessity

Male or female, you should get a pedicure to ensure that your cracked, sick skin does not show. Do not force the rest of the world to look at open orifices on your feet. It is disgusting, even if it is a part of you. Get it looked after. The frequency of your pedicures should vary with the ick-factor of your feet. If you know you have problem feet, go for biweekly peds. If you have normal feet, once every month or two should do the job.

6. Shave the Beast

This is especially for the men in the crowd. If you have some hair on the tops of your toes, shave it off. It will not make you womanly to do so - it will keep your boss from staring at your short and curlies while you are trying to dazzle them with your quarterly report.

7. When to Not Wear Sandals

If your feet are completely hideous and will not look any better without plastic surgery, or you cannot afford to get regular pedicures, you should not wear sandals in the workplace. They are also not acceptable in colder weather. There is some controversy over whether or not they are acceptable after Labor Day due to the excessive heat Septembers are starting to bring us, but generally temperature dictates the fashion. If you have to wear a jacket, don’t wear sandals. Otherwise, feel free to expose those toes.

8. Nylons or Socks With Sandals

You are at work, not at your future rest home. Never. Ever. Period.

9. Fight the Urge to Itch

With access to your feet comes access to the itch on your feet. Keep anti-itching powder in your desk to put on your toes when you feel the need to scratch your feet. If anyone sees you itching your feet and flakes of skin falling off, their urge to visit the bathroom immediately afterwards to lose their lunch may be greater than your urge to stop the itching. Just a dab of powder will do the trick and keep your co-worker’s lunches where they belong - in their tummies.

Save money by shopping for new sandals online. Browse the hottest brands including Rocket Dog sandals. Also shop online for a navy dress sandal.
